Character analysis:

-Amir

Amir is a multi dimensional character who takes on both the role of the narrator and the protagonist. Amir grows up in Kabul, Afghanistan and lives a privileged life, his father a wealthy businessman. Although a kind, intelligent boy in general, towards his friend and servant Hassan he acts very nastily often mocking and playing tricks on him. Amir drives the conflict in himself and in turn the conflict in the rest of the story. Amir’s internal conflict is the guilt he feels towards his betrayals of Hassan, Hassan’s rape and his leaving of the family home. Amir takes on a change throughout the book but especially when he moves to America there his guilt is some what reduced. However after Amir’s father’s death and a call from Rahim Khan he realizes he can never truly move on from his past until he deals with it.
