Sacrificial lamb:
The sacrificial lamb is also featured
throughout the novel and is a symbol of atonement and devotion. In Afghanistan
if you are Muslim you sacrifice a lamb to show devotion to Allah. Primarily
Amir and Hassan are the sacrificial lambs. First Hassan sacrifices himself by
not letting Assef take Amir’s kite and gets raped. Just like a lamb being
sacrificed, Hassan suffers for his loyalty. Later in the novel to protect
Sohrab, Amir must fight Assef. Sacrificing himself for the safety of Sohrab and
atoning himself from his betrayal of Hassan.
